TO SEE BEYOND LIGHT / BETWEEN THE BOUNDARIES OF INVISIBLE TERRITORIES

The working class neighborhood Los Olivos is located in the eastern hills of Bogotá, Colombia. To be more specific in Chapinero alto. The neighborhood has passed a gentrification process during the last decade, which effected their territory and habitants, limits, displacement and abandonment. The habitability in this space goes through visible as well as invisible territorial limits. This habitability shows itself through invasion, in this case the occupation is going through a gentrification process, which is driven by the power of its geographic position. The capitalistic way of seeing: The high hills in one of the richest districts in Bogotá overlooking the horizon. This horizon promises sun light at a far distance and as it falls into the night it is revealing inevitable relations between time and occupation. This project goes around the habitability of light in this neighborhood as a symbol of hope and human survival, a light that stands for someone occupying their home. This landscape recreates itself through spectators eyes noticing everything in between boundaries of gentrification: territories, displacement and abandonment as well as observation as a way of invading and invading as a way of habitation. This is a landscape forgotten by people, as in Colombia there are many forgotten territories by the state. Those territories have been displaced from their villages making people move to the big cities. Los Olivos is one of those forgotten territories but at the same time stands for resistance and hope.

This proyect is a process from all this observations, reflections, and constructions of what will be the landscape of the eastern hills of Bogotá. To understand the structure of the proyect is necessary to understand its parts as an approchment to space itself. "About this project" is the introduction to this project and the videos are an oncoming to space through light. This means understanding the habitability of light in Los Olivos as a way of resistance, home, transition and hope. In "Archive 35mm" you can observate and understand the territory limits and architectural space in between Los Olivos and the new constructions. At last but not least you will see the conclusion of what we understand as landscape. Landscape will be the construction of our observations and thoughts that will at the end be reflected in "In situ instalation".
