IN SITU
INSTALATION

The great finding of the abandoned structure you will see in the upcoming video is the reason why I could find this hidden in the mountains popular neighbourhood. This structure was a state construction destined to be a sport hall for the community of Los Olivos. As many of Bogotá buildings, this one stopped it's construction and became a 'white elephant'. The community of Los Olivos could not afford to keep it going and the state also stop caring about it and changed interests. This land has been in a corrupted way given and sell to a private construction company which plan to build another one of the buildings that displaced the community in the first place.

The sense of this in situ instalation goes through different parts. The chosen material is this symbolic zinc roof which is not only the ones that use the community to make their roofs but it is also the one that while in verticality means the limiting walls of construction companies that mark the territories of the houses that had been already sell and demolished. In this way the zinc roof has already both of this meanings and by its material characteristics, it's objetive is to reflect the sunlight as the sun goes down into the sunset. The in situ instalation of this zinc roofs is meant to reflect this sparkles of light as the same fireflies catching the attention of those who see it from the buildings that are in front of it also as in the long distance and make this place visible. Another meaning for this instalation is to recover the private space that should be public in the first place. In this way it will welcome people to go inside and see what's happening in the structure and also giving them freedom to take this zinc roofs for themselves and give them a new meaning.
